Busy little bee

I have a song stuck in my head from an episode of "Little Bill". "Spring is here! Spring is here! It's the best time of the year!"

Leaving church today I began rejoicing at the tiny signs of Spring peeking out at us between blades of grass. Small purple flowers, yellow daffodils, blue skies..

But, I know from living in Ohio for most of my life that this is just Nature's April fool's joke.. the weather reports say "Snow flurries" this week.

I knew it was too good to be true. Sigh..

Anyway.. if you've been wondering why I haven't blogged for a few day it's because I've been quite the busy little bee. I made a curtain for the Montessori bookcase and a matching table runner, using fusible webbing and an iron. The 3 yards of fabric I bought was a steal at Walmart, on clearance for $2.40 a yard, and I hung the curtain with a simple tension rod.

I also tried to re-create my own spring cloche display, inspired from the store bought one on the right. I was going to buy a bell jar, but decided to use this much more affordable $4 candle holder from Hobby Lobby instead. I just filled it with some natural grass and a sweet little bird and nest. I wanted to add some natural colored eggs beneath the grass, but it seems as though they were hidden and never found. So, I have an egg hunt to go on before finishing this project. :)

I also dug out, washed, and re-covered our sofas in some old slipcovers I had put away for the winter, so that the boys could take the cushions off to build cozy forts. I think they freshen up the room a bit.

The candle holder came wrapped in 3 large sheets of paper, which kept the boys busy for awhile so I could get my projects done. :)

I have many more posts coming very soon, just haven't had a chance to sit down and write as much lately. Hope you all had a good weekend!

  2. Lovely Transformation. Sometimes the simplest things can really freshen up a room. :)
Our walmart stopped carrying fabric. :( What a bummer. Not enough people were buying it, and they wanted to make room for other stuff. So sad. They are downsizing the craft section too. I couldn't find any ribbon either. I had to go to Micheals.
